Our diverse portfolio reflects expertise with complex urban infill, historic preservation, and creative fit-out projects. Founded by James X. Clemens, the company began as an interior commercial contractor specializing in retail, banking, and high-end corporate office projects. Clemens quickly built a reputation for providing excellent quality and personalized service. In 1997, Jim Clemens retired and sold the firm to the current president and former architect, Stephen W. Pouppirt. In the years since, Clemens has evolved into one of the Northeast’s most trusted general contractors, offering complete renovations of existing structures and ground-up new construction across numerous market sectors including multifamily, mixed-use, hospitality, education, healthcare, life sciences, commercial, office, retail, public recreation centers, and beyond.

CARPENTRY
What sets Clemens apart is its in-house Carpentry Division and Mill Shop, a legacy tied to founder Jim Clemens' mastery as a carpenter. Established in 2018, these divisions keep the tradition of excellence alive by allowing the company to self-perform all carpentry-related trades. This not only grants Clemens full control over project schedules but also optimizes supervision and manpower staffing, ensuring skilled craftsmen are readily available for each project's specific needs.

Our History

In 1979 James X. Clemens, landed his first construction job – the renovation of a small office. With no hired staff, Mr. Clemens had to perform almost all the work himself. The final outcome was a success. From the success of that single job, Mr. Clemens was able to hire a few employees and founded his own company. His innate vigilance and determination saw him through many long hours. But the payoff was in his ability to keep winning bigger jobs with more prestigious clients. In addition, his skill at hiring the best people for the job would pay off immediately. Within the first year of starting his company, Mr. Clemens achieved his first major accomplishment by generating over 1 million dollars in sales.

Our Project Managers and Superintendents have earned OSHA 30 certifications and the company has earned the Safety Committee Certification issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
