Clemens Construction proudly restored the historic Steele Building at 15 South Eleventh Street, reviving this early 20th-century architectural landmark while adapting it for modern use. Working closely with DAS Architects and Brickstone Realty, our team performed a core and shell renovation, complete façade restoration, and the installation of a new roof deck. The project honored the building’s rich history by replacing missing terra cotta tiles, preserving its distinctive polychromatic exterior, and carefully rehabilitating its structure to accommodate contemporary tenants. The upper floors were transformed into creative office spaces managed by The Yard, while the ground floor and basement were reimagined to house three vibrant retail and restaurant spaces, including Philadelphia-based Honeygrow.

Originally designed by William Steele and Sons in 1912, the Steele Building is a rare local example of transitional commercial architecture, blending brick, reinforced concrete, and glazed terra cotta. This restoration reestablishes the building as a Market East icon, reclaiming its place in Philadelphia’s architectural and social history. By breathing new life into this historic structure, Clemens Construction ensured that it continues to serve the city for generations to come, blending historic craftsmanship with modern functionality.
