Optimal microscope effectivity required the humidity in the lab space to be minimized dramatically. To achieve this, a new HVAC system was installed along with a coating of vapor barrier paint. New steel was then laid out to relocate all existing piping in mechanical room, which housed two air-handling units. New air-handling units were then set atop a dunnage platform on mechanical room roof. This in-depth process required meticulous attention to each step, from building protection over the high-tech microscopes, sealing all wall penetrations and installing new ceiling grid and light fixtures, to installing new columns to support dunnage platform, tapping into existing utilities to run new steam and chilled water piping, and finally tying in new ductwork before connecting to power.
